It’s official! The Board of County Commissions of Alachua County has named November 3 “The Doris Bardon Day.” The proclamation honors Gainesville’s cultural arts leader, Doris Bardon, and her legacy, The Doris. Several Doris volunteer leaders were on hand at the County Commission meeting on Thursday to be hear the proclamation read and be recognized by the board.

one of the benchmarks that define the quality of life in a community is the cultural environment; and
Doris Bardon recognized that we needed a cultural center to bring together artists and the citizens of this community; and
Ms. Bardon left her estate to the Arts Association of Alachua County to found The Doris Bardon Community Cultural Center; and
the Arts Association of Alachua County established “The Doris” one year ago and it now houses a gallery, offers classes and workshops, and hosts musical and many other events; and
The Doris will celebrate with a Birthday Bash on November 3rd, 2012 honoring its founder’s birthday, her vision and the first year of The Doris Bardon Community Cultural Center.
Now, therefore, through the authority vested in me by the Board of County Commissioners of Alachua County, Florida, I do hereby proclaim November 3rd, 2012 as “The Doris Bardon Day” in Alachua County, Florida.
